Year 6 Personal Writing Projects

At the start of September, we gave every child in Year 6 their own journal to begin their 'Personal Writing Projects.' The journals are written in every day and the children choose the subject, purpose, audience and writing processes they want to
use. The children have a genuine autonomy over their writing and are starting to see writing as an empowering and pleasurable activity which they can use now and in the future. The Year 6 teachers hold the same high expectations for personal writing projects as they would for class projects. We have been so impressed with the creative ideas the children have been sharing in their journals. From graphic novels about superheroes to information texts about favourite football teams, it has been wonderful to see the children’s personalities shine through in this independent writing. Here are some examples from recent Personal Writing Project.
