Year 1 visited the Tower of London on the 25th and 26th November. We travelled on the District Line to Tower Hill. The children were so excited to see the castle, having learnt so much about the different parts of a castle and their uses during their lessons in school. We walked along the battlements, saw where the moat used to be and learnt about the terrifying portcullis door that trapped enemies! We even explored the King's bedroom and the tower where prisoners were kept. The children also found out about the different animals that used to live in the Tower of London, including a polar bear that would fish in the River Thames! We took part in a workshop about all the different things a knight would have to do and how the monarchy lived at the castle. Despite the cold weather, we had a great time exploring the Tower, chatting to the Beefeaters and learning about the ravens.
