Year 5 were lucky enough to get their hands on tickets to 'A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings' at Stratford East Theatre last week. Puppetry, music and magic brought this story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez to life on the stage and certainly provided a lively adventure for the imagination.
The play involved a child with a sweltering fever, a dog chasing its tail, a mother dreaming of a new broom and a father gazing out to sea. To the children's surprise, the sea rose up like a bolt of lightning and a very old man with enormous wings crashed to earth in a flurry of feathers!
This was a wonderful enrichment opportunity for the children to engage with theatre and performance. They left feeling inspired to write their own plays, hone their acting and music skills, as well as return one day soon as captivated audience members.
