Library transformation

Elmhurst's Library transformation 2022

'At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better.'

Barack Obama

From the former president's impassioned description of a library's enduring influence, to Albert Einstein asserting that 'the only thing you really need to know is the location of the library,' there is no shortage of great minds willing to tell you how important these institutions are.

And Elmhurst has committed itself this year to investing in our school library to make it truly world-class and the beating heart of our rich reading community.

This transformation is already underway, with more than £10,000 worth of new books having already been bought, a new digital library system up and running and a new cataloging system fully implemented to make books easier to find for staff and students alike.

As if this wasn't already enough, even more library-focused initiatives are in the pipeline for the weeks and months ahead:

- New furniture is being invested in to make the library not just practical, but a vibrant and joyful space;

- The library will be opened before and after school for parents to read and borrow books with their children;

- During playtimes and lunchtimes, it will be open as a social reading space for students;

- New student reading ambassadors will take on roles helping to run and promote both the library and reading in general;

- A whole new system of how the library is used by children will be rolled out to maximise its usage and impact.

To celebrate both what has already happened and all of the exciting changes still to come, we will be relaunching the library with a special guest (to be announced soon!) early in the new year.

We are very excited by what this means for our school and our children and we are hopeful that you as parents will be working with us to make our new library the great success we know it can be.
