Year 6 London Docklands Museum Trip

On Friday 11th October, Year 6 visited the London Docklands Museum near Canary Wharf.  This allowed the children to further their understanding of the Transatlantic Slave Trade which they have been studying in their history lessons. Several exhibits, such as the long list of enslaved people’s names and the traps and torture devices, were really thought-provoking for the children and enabled them to empathise more deeply with the plight of enslaved people. The children asked many questions about the missing statue at the front of the museum and they will find out what happened to this in the upcoming lessons. This made an abstract period of history more tangible and relatable. The children were very responsible, well-behaved and made thoughtful responses to the subject-matter.
