Elmhurst Winners of Urban Debate League National Cup Final

Elmhurst Primary topped the Debate Mate Urban Debate League nationally and could therefore enter the Urban Debate League Cup Final competition at Manchester University. The team left school with Mrs Robinson & Ms Kettle at 6.30am!

The first round was a prepared motion: This House Believes That Artificial Intelligence Is Dangerous For Our Future. We proposed the motion. Tahrim opened with Riza & Safa coming next. Zahra was our summary speaker. The judge declared us winners & gave great feedback.

The second round motion was This House Would Punish Parents For The Crimes of Their Children. This time we were the opposition team. Two of our Year 5 debaters: Anaya & Marwan, took part in this debate. The results of this round were withheld but we must have won as we reached the final against Sacred Hearts Catholic from Liverpool.

The final motion was This House Would Replace SATs with Work Experience. Our Year 6 team competed & were the proposition team. Our speeches were magnificent & Zahra’s summary speech received many plaudits from the judges & audience.

We were announced winners & triumphantly lifted the cup. We returned to school at 8pm to be met by delighted parents.
