Years 4, 5 and 6 were very lucky to have a visit from the author and historian David Matthews. David has recently authored a book capturing some of the voices of the Windrush generation through the collection of their oral histories.
The pupils learnt about the important role oral histories play in providing a different perspective on historical events and developed their understanding of Windrush, drawing on and updating what they learnt during Black History Week in 2017.
Inspired by David’s visit, we would love to uncover some of the voices of the Elmhurst community. The pupils have been set a homework project in which they have been asked to interview an older family member and record an interesting story from their past.
