Pupils Model Outstanding Religious Education

On Wednesday 12th July, Elmhurst primary school in Forest Gate hosted over 200 pupils, parents, teachers, governors and faith leaders who came together to celebrate children’s learning in Religious Education in Newham schools.

Over forty different prizes were awarded to children and schools who had gone out to visit places of worship in Newham and Lon-don over this last academic year. Pupils produced work inspired by their visits on their return to school. The best of this work was then entered into the Newham wide competition. Work in this year’s competition included written accounts, painting, drawings, computer generated art, poems and songs, and LOTS of models.
Venerable Chueh Yun from London Fo Guang Shan Temple in Central London came especially to see some pupils who visited her temple and won prizes get their awards. Winning schools in this year’s competition were Britannia Village, Central Park, Curwen, Elmhurst, Grange, Hallsville, Hartley, Kensington, Lathom Junior, Ranelagh, St James’ Junior, Scott Wilkie and Winsor. Overall winners of Early Years Foundation Stage competition were Curwen Primary. Overall Key Stage One winners were Kensington Primary. Finally overall winners of Key Stage two were Elmhurst Primary.
