Laura Anderson Author Visit

On Friday 8th March 3S had their very own, extra special, book day.

Our day began with a visit to Stratford Library to hear the wonderful author, Lauren Ellen Anderson, talk about her Amelia Fang series of books. For anyone who hasn’t read the books, Amelia is a young vampire and along with her pet pumpkin Squashy and her friends Florence the yeti and Grimaldi the reaper, they go on adventures in the world of Nocturnia. Lauren filled us in on their different personalities and even gave us all a lesson as to how to draw Squashy.  She told us how she had been influenced by films like Casper and The Nightmare Before Christmas and books like The Twits and The Worst Witch. Finally, we all helped her design a new character called Jim Oopsy Daisy the Imp Ladybird.

Following Lauren’s talk we popped down the road to Westfield to use our World Book Day vouchers. The most popular choices seemed to be, Diary of Greg Heffley’s Best Friend, Percy Jackson and Lego Minifigure Mayhem. 3S were definitely inspired to keep reading, with plenty of children seen reading their books during the extra playtime they received when we returned to school.

It was a really great day and I am already looking forward to next year’s World Book Day.
