Elmhurst Teaching School Alliance (ETSA) is proud to provide local schools with ongoing CPD, trainee teachers, opportunities for pupil enrichment and different models of school-to-school support.

CPLD:

As part of our offer, we run a broad range of training events for NQTs, recently qualified teachers and experienced teachers and for senior leaders (including the NPQSL and NPQML. We also host RWI Phonics training for Newham schools at least twice a year. Pupil Enrichment

ETSA runs regular events for pupils from local schools. These are always well attended and popular. Please contact etsa@elmhurst.newham.sch.uk for more information or visit our website above.

  • Geography Bee
  • Maths Bee
  • East London Debating League (with DebateMate)

School-to-school support:

Within our Teaching School Alliance we have a number of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) and National Leaders of Education (NLEs) available for deployment in a broad range of subject areas, including Maths Mastery, phonics and leadership.

Please contact kyoung@elmhurst.newham.sch.uk if you would like to request an SLE to provide your school with bespoke support in a particular subject area.

Teacher training – school direct

After another highly successful teacher training year the ETSA Teaching School Alliance is once again looking to recruit trainees. We currently have places available for both the salaried and tuition-funded routes.

For either course applicants will need:

  1. GCSEs Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science
  2. Honours Degree Grade 2:2 or above

Differences between the two routes are detailed below:

Salaried Route  Tuition-Funded Route
Minimum 2 years prior work experience - this may or may not be school based. No prior work experience required although experience is school is highly desired.
Receive a salary which varies according to prior experience and where you are employed. Trainees pay fees of about £9000 - subject to change.
Trainees move from a 'class-share' situation to being the main teacher very quickly Throughout the year trainees work alongside the class teacher.
Training is front-loaded to ensure trainees have the necessary skills to take on whole-class responsibilities quickly. Training and coursework is spread-out throughout the course of the year.
Awarded QTS Awarded QTS and a PGCE

  • Highly dedicated individuals who believe they can make a difference to children's lives.
  • Candidates with a strong academic background and evidence of their own positive attitude to learning.
  • Reflective people who show willingness to adapt and change in order to best meet the needs of the children.

At ETSA our aim is to provide quality training in a child-centred environment where those interested in coming into teaching are empowered and have the necessary skills to become outstanding teachers.
